Have you been scrolling through your Pocketed account wondering what grants to apply for? Maybe we can make it easier for you!

Our users have good taste in grants, so take it from them. These are the top 8 grants with the most saves on the Canadian Pocketed platform.

1. Digital Skills for Youth Program (DS4Y)

This hiring grant is open to all of Canada and is administered through the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy. The funding provides a maximum of $30,000 per internship. It is open to organizations with less than 500 employees who are able to provide a minimum 6-month internship and a minimum of 30 hours of work per week. The host organization must also be able to provide a $1,000 contribution to the intern’s course of study.

Eligible interns are post-secondary graduates, 30 years old or younger, who are legally entitled to work in Canada. They must be underemployed — meaning they are employed below their education level, outside their area of study, or are a part-time employee.

2. Canada Summer Jobs

This hiring grant is open to all of Canada and provides summer work experience for young people aged 15 to 30. The funding is a maximum of $300,000!

Currently, due to COVID-19, there are employer flexibilities including a 75% hourly wage subsidy, funding for part-time employment, extended employment period, and changes to project/job activities.

The application portal for this grant is closed but will reopen next year, so make sure to save this grant to your Pocketed profile so you can apply once it reopens.

3. Career Ready Program

This hiring grant is open to all of Canada and provides up to $7,500 in wage subsidies per student during each placement period. Until April 2022, new pandemic measures have been implemented, like a 75% subsidy increase coming later this summer, the Net New requirement is no longer an eligibility factor, and post-secondary institutions may receive funding as employers.

It is open to registered Canadian businesses that are not federal, provincial or municipal government groups. They must be able to financially hire a student for part of a full-time work term and provide a meaningful experience. The student must be in a post-secondary institution and it’s not open to international students or immediate family members.

4. IRAP Accelerated Review Process Research Grant

This grant is open to all of Canada and $50,000 research grants are awarded monthly. Businesses can access up to 80% of direct labour costs and up to 50% of reputable third-party contractors to contribute their expertise to the project.

The businesses applying must be for-profit, have 1–500 full-time employees, be incorporated for at least 2 years, and have the desire to grow.

5. Digital Tech Internship

This hiring grant is open to all of Canada to hire a digital tech intern. Up to $28,000 could be awarded towards their salary and training.

If an application is pre-approved for funding, the employer will have three weeks to complete the remainder of the application process.

The application portal for this grant is currently closed, but if more funding becomes available this year, another round of applications may take place. Make sure to save this grant to your Pocketed account in case the grant reopens this year.

6. Employment and Social Development Canada: Canada Student Work Placement Program

This hiring grant is open to all of Canada and provides post-secondary students with possible short-term work placements, virtual internships, hackathons, business cases, and classroom projects to help the community.

The grant amount is $5,000 per student or $7,500 for a first-year student, woman in STEM, newcomer, Indigenous person, or a person with a disability.

7. CanExport SMEs

This grant is a Canada-wide market expansion opportunity (tip: market expansion grants are highly underutilized!)

The grant provides up to $75,000 to small and medium-sized businesses registered in Canada looking to expand into new international markets.

The business must be for-profit, incorporated or an LLP in Canada, have a CRA business number, have 500 or fewer full-time employees, and have $100,000 to $100 million in annual revenue declared in the last complete tax reporting year.

8. ImpAct — Summer Term

This internship grant open to all of Canada provides 100% coverage (maximum of $10,000) of a intern’s salary in traditional wage subsidies. The intern must be between 15 to 30 years old, able to work at least 6 months, and not a previous employee of your business.

The application portal is currently closed, but save the program in your Pocketed account and check back later to apply!
